Everbody that owns a baby stroller knows that one size definitely does not fit all. Baby strollers can be somewhat like shoes. If you like to jog, you don’t wear the same shoes that you would for going to church for example. So why would you try and use your stroller that way. You wouldn’t of course. That’s just silly.
But I think that you should take it a step further. I prefer to actually intentionally buy specific strollers for each task. Done properly, you can make your life very easy and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. When buying a bugaboo stroller for example, you pretty much don’t have to buy another thing unless you want to jog. It will take your child right from infant through to toddler and beyond. You can add a toddler board and it will pretty much serve as a dual.
But thats not the approach I’m talking about here. I am suggesting buying the best baby strollers for each individual challenge. It’s an approach that has saved me money and hassle. For example, when you little one is still an infant, you might want to essentially bypass the stroller purchase. If you have your little one in the carseat a fair bit, then just buy a simple unit that only carry’s a carseat.
There are a couple in this category, a Graco snugrider and a Jeep lightweight - both of which essentially lets you buy a very inexpensive stroller for when your baby is just a wee babe. Now, you shouldn’t have your child in the carseat sleeping overnight for example, but I used this method quite a bit when our kids were young.
As they are able to sit up on their own, it’s time for strollers for toddlers. At this stage, if you need a stroller that can handle the mall and the sidewalk, you need only a lightweight. At this stage your child is probably too wiggly to stay in a carseat. Probably too large also. They tend to want to be able too see what’s going on. So it’s the perfect time to move them to a lightweight stroller. The maclaren volo is a great choice in terms of lightweight baby strollers.
There are so many choices in baby strollers these days it’s difficult to know where to start. I mean if you are a new parent and you are looking for a great way to transport your new infant then its going to be be of paramount importance that you find one that suits your lifestyle. The truth is, your child is going to be safe and comfortable in most any stroller you choose. They are all pretty good that way.
Bassinet Or Car Seat Until She Can Sit Up
It’s important when you are looking are looking at stroller that you understand a couple of things. First, your child should not try to ride upright in a stroller before he can sit up really well. If your child isn’t at that stage yet, the you either need to carry her or make sure the stroller you select comes with a bassinet. If it folds down completely flat that also works, but a bassinet is best.
A carseat adapter is great, but you shouldn’t have your child constantly strapped into the carseat in the stroller. Studies show that your child can potentially suffer from asphyxiation if they are always sleeping the car seat. It’s rare, but why take a chance? If your child is going to be sitting up or toddling when you buy a stroller, you can eliminate the bassinet from the equation.
Big Seats
It’s very important that your stroller have good size seats. So many of them that are made forget that children will casually use a stroller until they are at least three sometimes even four. They don’t use them constantly but when their little legs get tired, it’s nice to be able to let them stroll and take a break.
Adjustable Seat Belts
This is also an important feature. Make sure the seat belts on your stroller can be adjust to two or three positions. Why? Because, yes, your child will grow, but also, you if have more than one child, odds are they will be different sizes right out of the gate. This is especially true if one is a boy and one is a girl. Our little guy was much bigger then our first girl, no doubt it.

Big Wheels
I’m personally a fan of big wheels, especially on the rear. It makes handling the stroller much easier. Bigger wheels handle unsteady conditions underfoot. It means gravel and sand are less of a problem. It’s very difficult to push a small wheeled stroller through either one.
Locking Swivel Wheels
Another key maneuverability feature is the front wheel swivel lock. Swiveling front wheels are great for the mall. But on an uneven sidewalk or a snow filled parking lot, flipping that lock on can make pushing the strolly much easier.
